Lot 273 Nigeria #16b, 20, 22a 1d Rose Red, 2d Chocolate & 3d Purple 1921-1932 King George V Imperium Keyplate Issue, Usage Two Registered Envelopes to UK
Two registered envelopes to the UK, both sent at the double weight rate of 7d on November 3, 1927 and July 4, 1930. One is franked with a single 1d rose red die 2 and a 3d purple die 2, to make up the remaining postage, while the other bears 2 x 2d chocolate die 2 stamps. The first cover is sent from Lagos and and the second from Port Harcourt. This second cover has the stamps tied by Proud type R2 Port Harcourt registry cancel.
VF condition overall. The value of the cancels in Proud is 2 GBP. The destination for the cover is of no premium value, but the rate is one of the better rates, as is the franking on the first cover, which would normally be two x 2d, rather than a 1d and 3d. These should add $15 to the basic cover value of $10. The stamp value on cover is $5. So, my estimate of the value of this covers is $32.
