Lot 254 Nigeria #16b, 18var 1d Rose Red, 2d Grey 1914-1929 King George V Imperium Keyplate Issue, Usage On Two Covers To Canada & Ireland

Two covers, both sent at the 2d rate, one to Canada and one to Ireland. The Canadian cover is sent from Lagos on February 8, 1929, and is franked with two 1d rose red die 2 singles, one on each side, tied by Lagos cancelled. There is also an Avonlea, Sask receiving backstamp. The Ireland cover is franked with a die 1 booklet single of the 2d grey, identifiable as such, by the guillotined perfs at the top. It is tied by a September 27, 1923 Lagos machine cancel. This cover has no backstamps.

Fine condition overall. The value of the cancels in Proud is nominal. The destinations for the covers are better, and scarcer than the standard US or UK destinations, and should add $15 for both covers. The basic covers would be worth $10. The stamp value on cover is $25 for basic stamps, and with the booklet single should really be $30. So, my estimate of the value of these is $55.
