A very fine used single of the 1c yellow from the 1870-1893 Small Queen Issue, second Ottawa printing, SON strike of the BC RPO hammer 21 used aboard the trains operating in the BC mountains between 1885 & 1899.
The Feb 25 1896 falls in the bitterly cold winter months and the 'west' direction indicates it was headed to Vancouver, which is scarcer than east bound mail. Extremely rare, as very few 1c Small Queens were cancelled aboard trains, as most were used on drop letters which were processed in the city post offices.
