Lot 323 Canada #35var 1c Yellow Queen Victoria, 1870-1897 Small Queen Issue, A VG Used Single Mid Second Ottawa Printing Showing Extensive Plate Wear, With Extensive Damage To The Design In Upper Right Corner

A VG used single of the 1c yellow Queen Victoria from the 1870-1897 Small Queen Issue mid second Ottawa printing showing extensive plate wear, with extensive damage to the design in upper right corner. This is by far the most dramatic example of this that I have come across. Dry inking flaws on these are not common to begin with, and this is the only example to surface in several hundred 1c stamps that I went through. Perf. 11.9 x 12 on greyish newsprint (2O-C). October 1893 Toronto CDS Cancel. This is consistent with the notion that new plates were introduced in late 1893 or 1894. Some short perfs, but an interesting variety.

Unitrade does not list this variety. Our estimate of the value, based on scarcity and condition is $10. The stamp offered here grades 55 as follows:

Centering/Margins: 25/60

Paper Freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 0/10

Cancellation: 10/10
