A fine used single of the 1c yellow Queen Victoria from the 1870-1893 Small Queen Issue, late use of mid Montreal printing, paper type LM-E, perf 12x12.1, interesting note about plate dots.

LM-E refers to Late Montreal, paper type E (Semi-porous, hard horizontal wove with visible mesh). The lot shows one of two possibilities: 1) Some plates produced after 1880 but before 1886 did have a position dot at LL, as this example does, or 2) The LM-E paper was in use as early as 1880 and this, with its faint 1888 date is a very late usuage. It seems more than likely that the correct explanation may be the first example. Calls into question the long help assertion that position dots ceased to be used after 1880.
