Lot 276 Newfoundland #, 2 Very Fine Used Covers, WW2 Naval Base & Grand Falls Covers, Two Scarcer VF Covers To The USA

2 very fine used covers of the from the, ww2 naval base & grand falls covers, two scarcer vf covers to the usa.

The two covers are; 1) Fleet mail office Airmail cover sent by a Canadian Soldier during WW2 to Maryland from a naval base in Newfoundland & franked with #c19. The cancel is not completely clear, and so the value is closer to $40 of the $40-$75 range given to me by Google. Almost all the value comes from teh fact that it was used on a naval base, and 2) standard first class cover sent to the US from the Grand Falls on July 19 1937. Franked with a 5c violet Coronation stamp not tied, but cancelled with the same split ring Grand Falls cancel that appears to the left of the stamp. Grand Falls is a major Inked paper Milltown and again most of the $40 value comes from that fact.

Unitrade doesn't list these varieties, so we estimate them at $80. The stamp offered here grades 60 as follows:

Centering/Margins: 35/60

Paper Freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10

Cancellation: 10/10
