A fine OG single of the 2d mauve Queen Victoria from the 1882-1884 Pearled Sideface Issue, Wmk V Over Crown Type 2 the rare mixed perf 12 & 12.5, priced in gibbons at 750gbp used, unpriced mint! est. $1,900. This is an exeedingly rare stamp in mint condition, as a dagger appears under the mint column in Gibbons, which indicates that it is unreported in this condition. The differential between mint and used in this period varies widely, but is is anywhere from 5:1 up to 40:1. The mixed perf itself refers to a change in gauge along one or more sides of the stamp where it is a certain guage up to a point on the side, when it switches. Because of this it is generally impossible to obtain an accurate, single reading from an instanta guage of what the perf. is. On this stamp, each of the vertical sides measure 12.5. But on the top and bottom margins it is 12.5 up to where the "O" of Victoria is, and then it changes to 12 for the rest of the stamp width on both top and bottom. As stated in the title, this lists in used conditon at 750GBP. If we are conservative and take the lower multiplier of 5:1 for mint to used, from this period, this stamp would be worth approximately 3,750 GBP, or approximately 1,900 based on the condition.
Stanley Gibbons 2019 does not price this variety in mint conditon, but values the used stamp at GBP750. Our estimate of the value, in the condition offered is $1900. The stamp offered here grades 68 as follows:
Centering/Margins: 40/70
Paper Freshness: 5/5
Colour: 5/5
Impression: 5/5
Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5
Perforations: 8/10
