Lot 237 South Africa (C) SG#65-68 1/2d - 6d Black & Blue - Green & Orange , 1935 Silver Jubilee Issue, A Very Fine Used Cover, Registered FDC to London, Showing Unlisted, But Constant Plate Flaws On Every pair Of Stamps.

A very fine used cover of the 1/2d - 6d black & blue - green & orange from the 1935 Silver Jubilee Issue, registered FDC to London, showing unlisted, but constant plate flaws on every pair of stamps.

The plate flaws are as follows: 1d - horn on King's ead, English stamp, 6d - orang dot under UM of Jubileem, 1/2d - vertical scratch to right of 'Silver Jubileen' and black dor under 'L' of 'Jubileem' and large blotch to right of Springbok on English stamp. The same variety is on the 3d Afrikaans stamp. I know these are constant because i sold all of them a few months ago. When i sold my collection of Silver Jubilee's the listed cleft skull & spots above head and behind neck varieties, which are comparable to these generally carry at least a 100% premium over the basic catalogue value. Cover prices are at par for this period.

Gibbons values this at £140, so we estimate it at $200. The stamp offered here grades 75 as follows:

Centering/Margins: 35/60

Paper Freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10
