Lot 151 Ascension (C) SG#40bvar 1.5d Black & Vermillion , 1938-1953 Pictorial Issue, A VFOG Single, Perf 13, 1948-1949 Printing With Smooth Appearing Gum
A VFOG single of the 1.5d black & vermillion from the 1938-1953 Pictorial Issue, perf 13, 1948-1949 printing with smooth appearing gum.
Very fine diagonal crazing under magnification showing unlisted & possibly constant 'buoy in the horizon' variety. This is the first example I have seen & De La Rue stamps don't usually just have random ink splatter.
Gibbons doesn't list this variety, so we estimate it at $15. The stamp offered here grades 75 as follows:
Centering/Margins: 45/70
Paper Freshness: 5/5
Colour: 5/5
Impression: 5/5
Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5
Perforations: 10/10
