Lot 67 (C) The Illustrated London News 1935 Silver Jubilee Book - 81 Pages in B&W and Colour Detailing ALL The Accomplishments During The Reign - See Video Description
A gorgeous 81 page softcover book detailing all of the accomplishments within the British Empire during King George V's reign. Main illustrations are black and white with several colour plates throughout.
The opening page begins with a large introduction/advert for Shell, and then a number of other adverts leading to an index. The sections of the book are as follows:
- Their Majesties
- 25 Years of Home & Imperial Politics
- 25 Years of Science
- The Royal Navy
- The British Army
- 25 Years of Archaeology
- Writers of the Present Reign
- British Feats Of Exploration
- British Aviation Since 1910
- Art & Artists
- Music, The Stage & Films
Then what follows is a series of articles, illustrations and colour plates, some of which are protected by glassine interleaving. The binding is not hard, so this book is a step above a paper-back, making copies in good condition hard to find. This one is nearly pristine, with only some minor splitting of the binding at the very ends, no more than an inch down the spine on either end. It could be easily repaired by a professional.
I saved this for the last week of offering of this issue, as it is this book that really embodies the spirit in which the whole stamp issue was produced, and I feel is a must for any serious collector of the Silver Jubilee issue that wants to put their collection into the proper historical context.
Our estimate of the value is $250 based on what the consignor has informed us similar copies have sold for.
Shipping on this will be $25-$35 depending on destination, and this is NOT captured automatically at checkout, so if you win this, please wait for your invoice before paying.
