Lot 134 Great Britain SG#37 1d Red Brown Queen Victoria, 1856-1858 Line Engraved Stars Issue, A GOG Single, White Paper, Die 2, Perf 14, Large Crown Wmk, Light Diagonal Gum Crease, NOT The Common Rose Red Shade

A GOG single of the 1d red brown Queen Victoria from the 1856-1858 Line Engraved Stars Issue, white paper, die 2, perf 14, large crown wmk, light diagonal gum crease. Note that this is not the common rose red, which was the standard ink used after the bluing was eliminated from the paper by Perkins Bacon. This is the earlier red-brown ink, and hence this is a scarce transitional printing.

Gibbons values this at £2400, so we estimate it at $300. The stamp offered here grades 45 as follows:

Centering/Margins: 25/70

Paper Freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5
