Lot 106 United States SC#W384 1c Green, 1903 Hartford Manufacturing Issue, A Very Fine Mint Envelope, Wmk 15A, 1909 Date, Which Is A Crossover Rarity As The Merchantile Corp Took Over Envelope Production In 1907.

A Very Fine Mint Envelope of the 1c green from the 1903 Hartford Manufacturing Issue, wmk 15a, 1909 date, which is a crossover rarity as the merchantile corp took over envelope production in 1907.

So what happened here is that Merchantile used the older Hartford plates with the newer paper stock. This is thus scarcer than the common watermark 14 or 15.

Scott doesn't list this variety, so we estimate it at $150. The envelope offered here grades VF.
