A Fine used field stock sheet of 100 of the 6c dark red Lester Pearson from the 1973-1978 Caricature Issue NF semi-smooth paper, on a sheet pad cover, Fort Francis roller cancels. Full Sheet of 100 used on a BABN sheet pad backing cover. These were the backing of the pads that sheets of stamps printed by BABN and CBN were stapled to when they were sent to post offices. Typically the sheets would be stapled in a pad of 50 to one of these, though no staple holes are visible (could have been reduced - actually quite likely since not as wide as the selvedge). Then the whole thing would be wrapped in plastic. It is not clear, but it looks like the post office receiving these pads re-used the cardboard backing for shipping parcels, or for shipping the pads to other post offices. In any event, the rate was $6.00 and was paid using a full sheet. Another possibility is that a customer used a full sheet to pay for 100 3rd class mail items, and the clerk used a full sheet on a recycled backing cover. The Fort Francis rollers are fairly crisp, but struck a bit more often than the sheet in lot 395. The side selvedge has some bends from slight overhang on the card to which the sheet is affixed, but it is pretty minor for a used sheet like this. There are a few small internal wrinkles affecting the sheet also.
