Collection: Current Weekly Auction - Closing Wednesday, November 4, 2026 at 11:30 pm Atlantic Time
Welcome to our weekly unreserved auction! This week, we are pleased to bring you an extensive offering of the United States Small Banknotes, First and Second Bureau Issues from 1890 to 1903, plus all the related postal stationery during this period.
You will find rare stamps in the stamps section, and the postal stationery boasts several unlisted and rare production crossover errors or low production special order envelopes. These have been thoroughly researched using the US Scott Specialized catalogue, the 1900 edition of Scott, which provided fully illustrated knife types for the stamped envelopes, and Google AI. You would do well to watch our videos about this material that we have posted this week.
One thing you will notice as you peruse the listings is the large discrepancy between our estimates and the basic Scott Catalogue values for the stationery. This is due to the fact that when Scott prices an envelope, the price is for the most common size, which is generally size 3 commercial. In addition, it is for the most common knife type. The knife refers to the specific construction of the back of the envelope itself. The1900 Scott catalogue illustrated over 80 different knife types. The Scott price is always for the most common type. Many of the items offered here are rare or scarce because (1) they are often the scarcer sizes, produced in much smaller batches, (2) they are produced with scarcer knife types, (3) they utilize earlier watermarked paper left over from previous contracts, or a combination of 2 or all three of these. For used envelopes, the Scott price is based on the most common sized and knife types, but also with the most basic of postal markings. Special rate markings, and other factors that tell a story will often raise the value far in excess of the basic catalogue value.
For Canada, we continue with the second instalment of a detailed offering of the 1946-51 Peace Issue. This week we examine the 10c, 17c airmail special delivery stamps and the 50c.
Lots marked with a "(C)" next to the lot number, or in the title are on consignment. Accordingly a 15% buyer's premium will apply to those lots only.
There are 291 lots this week.
If you are new to the auction, please visit our FAQ page for a description of all the relevant terms and conditions. Please also note that all Canadian residents will be charged appropriate sales taxes based on where they reside.
