Canada #337, 373 1c Violet Brown & 5c Black Queen Elizabeth II & Mining, 1954-62 Wilding Issue & 1957 Mining Congress Issue, October 1957 6c Surface Cover to India With Mixed Franking

A fine 6c surface cover to India, sent in October 1957. Franked with a single 5c Mining Congress commemorative and 1c Wilding to make up the 6c surface rate. Jaipur receiving backstamp on reverse.

Unusual because:

  • India would be an uncommon destination at this time.
  • The 6c surface rate was seldom used, as evidenced by the fact that the 6c Orange Wilding saw little use.
  • The rate has been paid with a 1c Wilding and a current commemorative stamp.

Our estimate of the value of this cover based on the above factors is $25. To understand how we have assessed the cover and arrived at this estimate and to gain a broader understanding of postal history collecting, I would suggest you read the article linked here. It should clarify the factors that make covers, and this one in particular scarce, and will help you to understand why we have estimated it at this amount.
