Southern Nigeria SG#22 1d Brownish Grey and Aniline Carmine Rose, 1904-1909 Multiple Crown CA Issue, Three VF Used Examples With SON Akassa, Asaba and Degema CDS Cancels

Three very fine used singles of the 1d grey and aniline carmine rose King Edward VII stamp from the 1904-1909 Multiple Crown CA keyplate issue. Although not listed in Gibbons, there were several printings of these stamps on both ordinary and chalky papers, and each differs by the shade of grey used to print the head. These three stamps are all printings made on ordinary paper, with the head printed in brownish grey. They are cancelled with various socked-on-the-nose strikes as follows:

  1. July 12, 1904 Degema (Proud type D5).
  2. November 27, 1905 (Proud type D5).
  3. March 1, 1905 (Proud type D5).

The estimated value of these, based on the point system quoted in Proud is approximately $60, with the Asaba cancel being the best in the lot. The stamps offered here grade VF-84 and VF-80 as follows:
