Canada #337v/393 1c Violet Brown - 5c Deep Ultramarine Queen Elizabeth II, Gannet, Nortthern Development & Arthur Meighen, 1954-62 Wilding Issue & 1961 Commemoratives, July 1961 Triple Airmail Cover to Denmark With Fabulous Multi-Stamp Franking

A very fine triple weight airmail cover to Denmark which has been overpaid by 1c (46c instead of 45c). Fantastic franking of no fewer than 8 stamps, including a block of 4 of the 5c Arthur Meighen, a single of the Northern Development Issue, and three Wilding definitives. The 1c overpayment was likely made because the sender started affixing stamps before they were sure they had enough, and they had to put more on by the time they found an extra stamp. Sent from Abbotsford on July 14, 1961.

Unusual because:

  • Triple weight covers are not often seen.
  • The rate has been paid with several definitives and current commemoratives.

Our estimate of the value of this cover based on the above factors is $20. To understand how we have assessed the cover and arrived at this estimate and to gain a broader understanding of postal history collecting, I would suggest you read the article linked here. It should clarify the factors that make covers, and this one in particular scarce, and will help you to understand why we have estimated it at this amount.
