Canada #328/355 4c Violet - 5c Ultramarine Queen Elizabeth II & Women in Field, 1953-54 Karsh, 1954-62 Wilding & 1955 Alberta & Saskatchewan Issue September 1958 17c Overpaid Airmail Cover to The Netherlands Bearing Combination Franking

A fine and apparently overfranked airmail cover to the Netherlands, which has had 17c postage affixed. Interestingly there are two different cancels tying the stamps to the cover, which suggests that the 12c was affixed first, and the addtional 5c was added later to avoid underpaying the rate.

Unusual because:

  • The Netherlands is a less common destination compared to Switzerland, France or Germany.
  • The franking includes a 6c orange Wilding, which is seldom seen on cover.
  • FFour different stamps have been utilized to pay the postage.

Our estimate of the value of this cover based on the above factors is $10. To understand how we have assessed the cover and arrived at this estimate and to gain a broader understanding of postal history collecting, I would suggest you read the article linked here. It should clarify the factors that make covers, and this one in particular scarce, and will help you to understand why we have estimated it at this amount.
