Lot 73 Nyasaland SC#62var 1/- Orange & Black 1938-1944 KGVI & Leopard Definitives, Massive Misplaced Entry In Black, A VFOG Single, Click on Listing to See ALL Pictures, Estimated Value $500, The Discovery Example, Possibly Unique!

A VFOG example of the 1/- orange & black from the 1938-1944 KGVI & Leopard Definitives, massive misplaced entry in black. The unique discovery copy example. A VFOG example showing a massive misplaced entry of the country tablet and diagonal background shading printed over the orange in black. At the top of the stamp you can see the outline of the word "Nyasaland' and below it, the framelines below the word. At the upper right the design repeats. Then at the level of the top of the kings head you can see an outline of the top frameline and then the shading below it. You can see that shading in the right and left margin, then in the bottom margin you can see the diagonal shading again. This proves that this was printed in two operations. It appears that the black duty plate was entered using a plate that was previously used for the frame that had not been properly burnished before being entered. This is the first such entry I have ever come across on any British Commonwealth stamp from the GV Or GVI period, let alone as spectacular as this. A rarity whose value will surely dwarf the realization in the years to come. Our estimate of the value based on the condition is $500. How many of these exist? It depends how many subjects of the frame had been entered onto the plate used for the vignette that had not been burnished off. It is entirely possible that there was only one, or just a few. In that case, this stamp would be unique, or one of only a small handful.
