Lot 56 Canada #E7-E8, 248 1939 Royal Visit & Special Delivery Combination Cover

A very fine cover sent within Kingston on May 25, 1939 after the special delivery rate was reduced to 10c, and franked with examples of both the 10c green and surcharged stamp, as well as the 3c Royal Visit, paying the 3c postage. There are a couple of possibilities here: the cover could be philatelic, with both stamps being attached for philatelic purposes, rather than postal purposes, OR the sender might have been unaware of the rate decrease because it occurred only a month before in April, and they attached both stamps thinking the rate was still 20c. In any event this is a nice combination usage. There is a vertical file fold, not affecting the stamps. Est. $10-$15.
