Lot 470 Luxembourg SC#O4 12.5c Rose 1875, A VG Used Example, Forged Overprint, Click on Listing to See ALL Pictures, Estimated Value $10 USD

A VF used example of the 12.5c rose from the 1875 Official Overprints Type 1 Frankfurt Printing. Without a certificate these overprints are difficult to expertize, as they have been fairly extensively forged. I have checked the basic stamp against the stamp forgeries website, and can confirm that the stamp is genuine. I have also attempted to determine the authenticuty of the overprint as explained in this week's blog post. Based on my findings, I do believe this to be a forged overprint. The dimensions and shape of the letters looks correct, but they are all out of alignment, whereas they appear to be all in alignment on the genuine stamps. There is also a small thin, which is why I grade it as VG. It is still a useful reference example of spacefiller of a rare stamp, which lists for $600 in Scott. Our estimate of the value based on the condition is $10.
