Lot 4 Canada #233 3c Carmine King George VI, 1937-1942 Mufti Issue, Group of 6 Bank Cheques, All With Various "No Protest" Handstamps

Lot 4 Canada #233 3c Carmine King George VI, 1937-1942 Mufti Issue, Group of 6 Bank Cheques, All With Various "No Protest" Handstamps

6 cancelled cheques from The Canadian Bank of Commerce, all franked with 1 or 2 3c Mufti Issue stamps used as excise tax stamps. The rate of tax was 3c on cheques under $100 and 6c on cheques over this amount. In addition, each cheque shows a different "no protest" handstamp applied to the cheque by the recipient's bank. This handstamp is applied by the bank giving instructions to the bank on which the cheque is drawn, not to pursue collection in the event that the cheque is not paid. If you look at the sequence of the date stamps, you can see that the stamps are applied and cancelled last, after the cheque has cleared and the funds are paid. An interesting group. Est. $6.
