Lot 371 Tanzania SG#142a-157a 5c - 20/- 1971 Harrison Fish Definitive Issue, a VFNH Set on Glazed Paper, With Both Listed Shades of the 10/-

A VFNH set of the 1971 Harrison Fish Definitive Issue, printed on glazed paper. The definitive issues printed by Harrison and Sons between 1960 and about 1974 show a wide variety of different fluorescent papers under UV light, as well as slight differences in the appearance of the gum used on the paper. The early printings, mostly made before 1963 are on chalky paper that is DF or NF on the front and either DF, NF, DF-fl or LF-fl on the back. Printings made between 1962 and 1966 are on chalky papers that give a much brighter fluorescent reaction on the front, and varies on the back from NF, DF, DF-fl, LF-fl and MF-fl. Printings made after 1966 are generally on HF/HF or HF/HB papers. The gum used varies from a smooth white dextrine gum with vertical or horizontal streaks, a crackly gum, or smooth creamy PVA gum. The stamps in this lot are all on 4 different kinds of glazed paper, all of which are identified on the back of the 102 card the stamps are in, and have both dextrine and PVA gums, including: LF or MF/LF, MF/DF, MF/DF-fl and MF/HB. Both listed shade varieties of the 10/- with the different water colour are included.

Gibbons values these stamps at 46.75 GBP = approximately $79.48. The stamps offered here grade between 75 and 84.
