Lot 347 United States Of America #30A 5c Brown Thomas Jefferson, 1857-1861 Perforated Toppan Carpenter Issue, A Good Used Single Type I

A good used single of the 5c brown Thomas Jefferson from the 1857-1861 Perforate Toppan Carpenter Issue type I. Although this appears to match the image on Swedish Tiger's website, it is much closer to pure brown than any of the examples I found of the red brown on e-Bay or Hipstamp. So, I think this is actually the brown shade. The perfs along the left side have been trimmed off, and there is a significant closed tear at upper left. These issues reduce the grade from fine to good.

2016 Scott Specialized values this at $300 for VF. Our estimate for this condition is $20. The stamp offered here grades 48 as follows:

Centering/Margins: 40/60'

Paper Freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 0/10

Cancellation: 8/10

Adjustment for mentioned faults: -20 points.
