Lot 347 Germany SC#544var (Mi 925c) 24pf Dark Brown Orange 1946 Numeral Definitives, A F/VFNH Single, Click on Listing to See ALL Pictures, Estimated Value $20 USD

A F/VFNH example of the 24pf dark brown orange from the 1946 Numeral Definitives. 2023 Michel cat. €25. Our estimate of the value based on the condition is $20.

The numeral definitive issue from 1946-1948 exists printed in a variety of different shades, many of which are listed in Michel. We have the Michel colour key, whose colour descriptions match the catalogue descriptions. Consequently we have carefully checked the shades and have offered most items cataloguing less than 70 Euro without certificates and with the assurance that we have checked them to the colour key and they do match. The way Michel lays out their listings, the inexpensive shade is nearly always listed first, and it actually covers a range, while the 2-4 scarcer shades are listed underneath it, and these are generally very specific shades that must match the colour key. So, we have treated most shades that do not match one of the listed shades as variants of the least expensive shade. The network and banded posthorn overprints on these have been extensively forged, so we have generally not bothered to list these, unless they bear expertizing handstamps from one of the recognized BPP experts, of which Dr. Bonne and Schlegel are well known.
