Lot 336 Great Britain SG#FN1A/FN6A 1982-1983 Five £1.43 Booklets From the Postal History Series Containing Panes of 6 15.5p and 4 12.5p Machins, Selvedge at Left and Right, Tabs With Cutting Guidemarks and One With Cylinder Number, SG. Cat. £15 = $25.05
VFNH examples of four £1.43 booklets from the Postal History Series, each containing a pane of 10 Machins, consisting of 6 15.5p and 4 12.5p stamps. The selvedge is at the right for the Booklet designs 5 and 6, and on the left for the others. The selvedge tabs all contain a single extension perf hole, cutting guidemarks and the 7th booklet design tab has a split arrow marking at the bottom. The panes are all tagged with two phosphor bands, but in such a way that all 15.5p values have two bands and all 12.5p stamps have only one band at either left or right. All have PVAD gum. The 5th booklet has the cylinder numbers B2 and B4 on the tab. The booklets have HF covers and HB/MF panes. The pane on the fourth booklet is HB/MF with considerable woodpulp flecks visible in the paper.
The fourth booket has a black rectangular counting mark on the spine. I’m not sure how often these appear on British Booklets, but here in Canada they are every 50th booklet. But it seems reasonable to suppose that it will either be every 25th, 50th or 100th booklet, so they are significantly scarcer than the booklets without the mark.
Gibbons Concise cat. £15 = $25.05. The booklets offered grade between VF-79 and VF-84. The cover of the third booklet has a small stain at the top that lowers its grade to VF-79.
