Lot 334 Canada #419, 420i, 422i 5c Multicoloured White Garden Lily - Prairie Crocus, 1964-1966 Emblems Issue, 3 F/VF First Day Covers With English Schering Cachets, Stamps On LF & DF Papers

3 F/VF first day covers of the 5c multicoloured White Garden Lily - Prairie Crocus from the 1964-1966 Emblems Issue with English Schering cachets, stamps on LF & DF papers. Schering was a Canadian drug company, and as a promotional stunt, what they would do with all the doctors that they had on file was send them drug literature in these large FDC's, as a way of trying to get them to prescribe their medication, by essentially giving them free first day covers. That is the reason for their unusual sizes: because they contained drug brochures. These ones don't actually contain the brochures, but they very make very interesting reading, as well as a time capsule showing how little the drug industry has changed in 60 odd years.

Dickenson values this at $12 for the covers with stamps on DF paper. Our estimate of the value with stamps on both papers is $15.
