Lot 328 Canada #261 50c Violet Munitions Factory 1942-1949 War Issue, A Fine Censored Cover to USA

A fine and mysterious cover sent from BC to US in what appears to be April 1943, and franked with a single 50c Munitions factory, which is the mystery, as the cover is not registered, and it is not going outside North America, which is what would normally have required such a large denomination. It is possible that it is 12 times the domestic rate, but the envelope looks too small and is in too good of a condition for it to have contained anything that heavy. Another possibility is that it was insured, but the postal clerk forgot to apply the registration handstamps. It is censored, being opened by examiner 3744 and sealed up with his tape.

Single usages of the 50c and $1 are very scarce, especially on commercial mail. Unitrade does not list a single use of this value, but does list the $1 at $250. So, I think a reasonable value is $75.
