Lot 313 - Three Red Boxes Of Mint & Used Germany
Lot 313 - Three Red Boxes Of Mint & Used Germany
Three red boxes of 102 card-like sleeves containing mint and used stamps of Germany as shown in the video. Predominantly used, starting with the 1919 issues and progressing up to the early 2000's, with a small amount of semi-postal material. Moderate duplication with most cards containing 6-10 of each stamp, though some cards have only one stamp.
The first box covers a little bit of back of the book, with mint airmails, officials and some Allied Occupation issues. Then there is a small amount of Berlin. The regular German issues start with the inflation issues, present in quantities of mint hinged and some used, which are likely dubious. This gives way to some definitives from sets issued between 1925 to 1951. Federal republic starts with some used Posthorn definitives, through the 1973 commemoratives. With this box there are about 1,000 cards with an average number of stamps per card of 5-6, so approximately 5,500 stamps, and possibly a bit more. Average catalogue values are around 30c per stamp, so approximately $1,650 in catalogue value for this box.
The second box covers the period from about 1974 to 1995. This box is nearly all used and the quantities are higher in each card: 6-7 stamps easily, and about 1,000 cards, so 6,500+ stamps. Average values here are around 50c a stamp, so approximately $3,200 catalogue value for this box. The stamps are about 95% VF and 5% fine.
The third box runs from 1996 to 2006, plus the semi-postals. This is about 1/3 of a box, and is all used. Quantities are lower here: about 4 stamps per card in about 350 cards. So, about 1,400 stamps. Values here are higher, averaging at least 75c a stamp. So, the catalogue value for this box is approximately $1,050.
So there are approximately 13,400 stamps, with a probable catalogue value of $5,900. At 5% of catalogue for the duplication, our estimate of the value is $295.
Shipping will be about $35 within Canada. The third box can be eliminated by packing the cards from it on the top of the first and second boxes, or we can ship all three boxes if you want the red boxes for your own use.
