Lot 297 Nigeria #188/280 1966-1972 Wildlife Definitives and 1971-1972 Commemoratives Combination Usage on Airmail Cover to UK, Net Est. $10

Overpaid airmail cover sent from Jos on July 7, 1972 to Leichester, UK. Franked with two
Id NSP&M definitive, 2d NSP&M with small imprint, 3d definitive, 4d NSP&M, 9d NSP&M, plus 1/- NSP&M; Ad Satellite Communications Earth Station issue; 4d Unicef Issue, 1/3d Antiquities Issue, Ad OAU Africa Trade Fair Issue, and 'Id Nigeria Drives Right issue. Together, these stamps pay a total of 5/6d, which is more than triple the 1/6d first class airmail rate. So, it would seem that this might be a philatelic cover. However, the haphazard arrangement of the stamps supports the notion that it may simply be a cover sent commercially where the sender had difficulty making up the triple rate, and simply affixed too many stamps. The stamps are tied by clear strikes of Proud type D14 CDS cancel. A few endge wrinkles, but F-VF overall.
The off-cover value of the stamps is $8.65. Our estimate of the value of this cover is $10.
