Lot 294 Canada #463 & Biafra SC#2 4d Independence, Two Singles Used on A Forwarded Airmail Cover to Denmark, Rare Usage on Cover, Net Est. $150-$250

Airmail cover sent from Toronto, Canada to Copenhagen on October 31, 1968. Franked with a 15c Centennial Definitive, paying the airmail rate from Toronto to Copenhagen. A backstamp indicates that the cover reached Copenhagen on November 4, 1968. From here, it would appear that the recipient of the cover went to Nigeria and had the letter with him because there is no evidence of any postage being paid in Denmark. On November 11, 1968 the same envelope was mailed from Umuahia, Biafra back to Denmark. Two 4d Independence Issues were affixed to pay 8d postage, which was insufficient and consequently, and a Proud type IJP2 underpaid "T" marking was applied to the envelope, although the deficiency has not been quantified. The stamps are tied by Oval registry handstamps for Umahia, dated November 12, 1968.

All covers from Biafra are rare. Our estimate of the value is at least $150.
