18 F/VF OG singles from the 1948 - 1953 Portrait Definitives, specialized group on chalk surfaced paper. Before the change to the DDR watermark this set was printed on at least three different papers, including translucent toned wove, white unsurfaced paper and chalf surfaced paper. Missing only the 15pf,12pf,24pf. The Scott numbers range from 10N29 to 10N44. 2017 Scott Cat.$16.90

This issue exists in many printings, with many shades. There were two watermarks used - the large florette watermark, which this set is, and the later DDR and posthorn watermark. Scott lists the basic watermarks, however it does not list any of the shades that can be found, nor does it list any of the paper varieties that can be found. In addition to both horizontal and vertical wove paper, the stamps can be found on chalky paper, white unsurfaced paper, and a rough, translucent, almost newsprint-like paper.
