Lot 241 Lagos SG#15 (SC#11) 6d Deep Green, Queen Victoria, 1876-1880 Line Perf. 14 Crown CC Watermarked Issue, 3rd Printing, A Repaired But Scarce CDS Used Example, Net Est $2, Click on Listing to See ALL Pictures

A VF appearing, but repaired CDS used example of the 6d deep green Queen Victoria De La Rue Keyplate stamp from the 1876-1880 line Perf. 14 Crown CC issue. According to J.F Ince in his definitive work, there were a total of 34,080 stamps issued across 3 different printings between May 9, 1876 and August 28, 1878. This example is from the third printing from August 28, 1878, of which 12,300 stamps were printed. Printed on vertical wove paper with fine vertical mesh. Cancelled with a clear strike of a Proud Type 6 March 16, 1885 Lagos CDS. It is worth noting that CDS cancels are almost never seen on this issue, which is nearly always found cancelled with the Lagos barred killer cancellations. The stamp has had the corner reattached, but is of interest because of the cancel, and it is sold for the value of the cancel, rather than the stamp.

Our best estimate of the value of this as is is $2.

I have written a blog post which explains the differences between the printings, which you can access here.

The stamp offered here grades fair.
