Lot 230 Great Brittain SG#257a 1/- Dull Green & Carmine King Edward VII, 1902-1910 De La Rue Keyplate Issue, A Fine Used Example, Imperial Crown Watermark, Chalk Surfaced Paper, Perf. 14, Light Parcel Cancel, Nice Colour

A fine used example of the 1/- dull green & carmine King Edward VII from the 1902-1910 De La Rue Keyplate Issue with Imperial Crown watermark, chalk surfaced paper, perf. 14, light parcel cancel, nice colour. This example has nice colour, which shows only the very slightest amount of running on the bottom scroll, which is excellent for this, as the dull green ink was doubly fugitive, which means that it runs with exposure to water. Most examples have very light yellow green colour, which is how the ink appears when it has fully run. Used examples with the true dull green colour are uncommon.

Gibbons values this at 40 pounds, which is approximately $68. However, our estimate of the value given the condition is $20. The stamp offered here grades 68 as follows:
