Lot 225 Canada #41 3c Vermilion Queen Victoria, 1870-1897 Small Queen Issue, 24 Fine Used Singles, All With Full to Partial, Dated Squared Circle Cancels, 2nd Ottawa Printings

24 fine used singles of the 3c vermilion Queen Victoria from the 1870-1897 Small Queen Issue. All with full to partial, dated squared circle cancels, 2nd Ottawa printings. Most of the towns are different, though there is some duplication of the larger cities. They are different from the other, similar lots of town cancels offered in the sale however. Where there is duplication of cities, either the paper, or the shade of the stamp will be different in some way. The papers are generally the opaque, soft poor quality wove paper, and the translucent paper that is otherwise similar. A few were on the better quality wove paper that was introduced in 1895. Shades range from deep vermilion, to orange vermilion, but are mostly deeper vermilions.

Unitrade values the basic VF stamps at $6.30, but we feel that this is too low for full CDS strikes. Therefore our best estimate of the value is $12. The stamps offered here grade 65-70 as follows:
