Lot 224 Morocco Agencies - Tangier SG#275 10/- Ultramarine King George VI, 1949 Overprinted King George VI Issue, A VF Used Example With Genuine Tangier Cancel

A VF used example of the 10/- ultramarine King George VI from the 1949 Overprinted King George VI Issue with genuine Tangier cancel. This stamp has a genuine Tangier cancel, as evidenced by the inclusion of the word Tangier in the cancel indicta, though it is not completely clear. The stamps of Morocco Agencies, except for the French and Spanish Currencies were valid for use in the UK after 1950, and quite frequently the used stamps found on the market are with UK cancels, rather than Morocco ones. Because of this, Scott values for used are wildly different from Gibbons values, because Gibbons prices genuine Morocco cancels, whereas Scott does not.

Gibbons values this at 140 pounds = approximately $239.4. Our estimate of the net value is $75. The stamp offered here grades 78 as follows:

Centering/Margins: 40/60

Paper Freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 3/5 (tiny wrinkle at UL)

Perforations: 10/10

Cancellation: 10/10
