Lot 220 Canada #41 3c Vermilion Queen Victoria, 1870-1897 Small Queen Issue, 22 Fine Used Singles, All With Full Dated CDS Town Cancels, Mostly All 2nd Ottawa Printings

22 fine used singles of the 3c vermilion Queen Victoria from the 1870-1897 Small Queen Issue. All with full dated CDS town cancels, mostly all 2nd Ottawa printings. All of the town cancels on these are different, and are different again from the other 2 lots. The paper is generally a mix of the soft, translucent poor quality wove that is somewhat brownish, but NOT the newsprint-like paper. and the more opaque version of this paper. There is also and example on the better quality paper that was introduced in 1895. The shades range from deep orange vermilion to pale orange vermillion. They are generally not the pinkier anline shades, not the deep, pure vermilion shades, though I did see 1 or 2 aniline shades. There is one perf. 11.75 x 12 Montreal priting of the orange red with a Lucknow split ring cancel.

Unitrade values the basic VF stamps at $5.70, but we feel that this is too low for full CDS strikes. Therefore our best estimate of the value is $11. The stamps offered here grade 65-70 as follows:
