Lot 202 Newfoundland #75 1c On 3c Gray Lilac, 1897 Surcharged Issue, A Very Fine Cover From Saint John's To Halifax From November 6th 1897

A very fine cover from Saint John's to Halifax of the 1c on 3c gray lilac Queen Victoria from the 1897 Surcharged Issue from November 6th 1897. Likely philatelic, as it was addressed to prominent stamp dealer Capt. Henry Hechler.

Unitrade values this at $100.

The 3c slate stamp comes in many more shades than what unitrade lists. In addition to slate, you can find slate-grey, slate-blue and bluish slate. There are also grey and deep grey, as well as blue. The colour palatte for this stamp basically mirrors the later printings of the 15c Large Queen. The paper is soft and can be found in both vertical and horizontal wove.
