Lot 162 Canada # 50 1/2c Grey Black on Toned Paper Queen Victoria, 1897 Diamond Jubilee Issue, A VGNH Example, Showing Faint Vertical Line in Crown

An almost fine, but VGNH example of the 1/2c black Queen Victoria from the 1897 Diamond Jubilee Issue, printed in the grey black shade on toned paper, showing the remnants of the vertical guideline that is sometimes found running through the design. Sometimes it can be found at the base of the design between "Half Cent", in the "R", in the crown and into the top margin of the design. This example shows just the line in the crown, so the sideographer was very nearly successful in burnishing the entire line off the plate. There is a natural gum wrinkle that reduces the grade from fine to VG.

Unitrade values the normal stamp at $60 for NH. The stamp offered here grades 60 as follows:

Centering/Margins: 35/70
Paper Freshness: 5/5
Colour: 5/5
Impression: 5/5
Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 0/5 (natural gum wrinkle)
Perforations: 10/10
