Lot 111 British Levant SG#50 10/- Deep Grey Blue King George V and Britannia, 1922-1932 Overprinted Bradbury Wilkinson Sea Horse High Value Issue, A VFOG Example Showing Unlisted Major Re-Entry

A VFOG example of the 10/- deep grey blue King George V and Britannia from the 1922-1932 Overprinted Bradbury Wilkinson Sea Horse High Value Issue showing unlisted major re-entry. Although not listed by Gibbons these issues will exist with the same range of shades that are found on the unoverprinted Great Britain stamps, as existing stocks of whichever printing was current would have been used for overprinting at the time the requesition was received by the printer from the Crown Agents. This stamp shows an extensive re-entry that is similar to the plate 5 R1/1 re-entry listed in Gibbons specalized. The doubling affects: the entire left frameline, all of the lower right corner, from the horse's head downwards, the section of the design under the right horse and the "NGS" of "Shillings", the shield and the upper right corner.

Gibbons values this at 45 pounds = approximately $76.95. Our estimate of the net value is $200, based on the fact that a similar re-entry on the GB stamp is listed for 300 pounds in GB Specialized. The stamp offered here grades 75 as follows:

Centering/Margins: 45/70

Paper Freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10
