Great Britain #387-401 (SG631-645) 1962-1963 Commemoratives, A Specialized Mostly Very Fine Used Lot of 29 Stamps, Many Shade and Fluorescent Paper Varieties

A group of 29 mostly very fine used stamps, being a complete run of the 1962-1963 commemorative issues, plus many unlisted shade and paper varieties. The shade varieties occur on the 1962 National Productivity Year issue, and are listed in SG Specialized. This lot includes all of the listed varieties of shade for the 2.5d and 3d values of that issue. Then, there are several variations of paper on the other issues, which give similar hibrite to high fluorescent reactions under UV light from the front side of the stamps, but vary greatly in the reaction given on the reverse side.

The pictures attached show you some examples of the variations found on the papers of this period. The variations in this lot will not be exactly the same, but the pictures will give you some idea of what you can expect to find as you look them over with a long wave ultraviolet light. None of these varieties are listed anywhere, including Gibbons specialized, which is really surprising given how marked many of these variations are.

The centering is generally VF, through a few stamps will be fine only. Cancellations are generally medium to light, with no overly heavy cancels. There is plenty of room for expansion here, as all indications are that there could be as many as 5 or 6 possible variations of paper on most of these issues. It really isn't clear because no study that I know of has been done to discover them all.

This lot thus represents an opportunity to get a start on a new specialized area of your GB collection that is sure to be a lot of fun. Gibbons values these as basic stamps at £16. This translates to approximately $32. The stamps offered here grade between 70 and 84.
