Canada #1183 $5 Bonsecours Market 1988-1991 Wildlife and Architecture Issue, a VFNH Specialized Group of 2 Different Printings on Peterborough Paper

A VFNH group of 2 different printings of the $5 Bonsecours Market stamp from the 1988-1991 Wildlife and Architecture Issue. The Printings differ according to (1) whether the columns in the dome are light or dark in colour and (2) the intensity of the grey black in the roofline. The printings thus are:

  • DF/DF Peterborough Paper, light columns, light grey roofline.
  • DF/DF Peterborough Paper, light columns, deeper grey roofline.

On this issue paper fluorescence has been completely ignored because the perception is that all the stamps are on dull paper. However, this is a bit of an oversimplification, as the pictures of the $1 stamps will show. While it is true that the Harrison paper is dull on the face, or non-fluorescent on the face, stamps on this paper can be found with low and medium fluorescence on the back.

Unitrade lists these stamps at $20 for VFNH, as basic varieties of 1183. The stamps offered here grade 80 as follows:

Centering/Margins 50/70

Paper freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10
