A very well centered and very fine mint NH sealed post office pack containing a matched set of four corner blocks of 4 of the 36c bright plum Queen Elizabeth II bas-relief definitive stamp from the 1982-1987 Artifacts definitive issue. Comb perf. 13 x 13.3. Vertical wove Harrison paper, with smooth chalk-surfacing. Smooth bluish white PVA gum with a satin sheen. Mottled deep bright yellow GT-4 OP-2 tagging. Under ultraviolet light, the paper gives a non fluorescent grey violet reaction on the front, and a dull fluorescent greyish white reaction on the back, with no fluorescent fibres visible in the paper. The insert inside the pack shows the type 3 pale blue small maple leaf Canada Post logo, which was replaced in the 1990's. The card stock gives a dull fluorescent greyish reaction under UV light. Unitrade does not specify the paper fluorescence of this stamp, but all examples that I have seen are of this variety. All examples that I have seen are printed on Harrison paper, with the majority of examples being on vertical wove paper (stamp curls from side to side). The gum is almost always the bluish white type seen here, but examples with a cream gum lacking the bluish tint do exist and are much scarcer. Unitrade values four VF-75 NH blank corner blocks at $80. These packs have become quite scarce because most were opened in order to supply collectors with individual blocks or singles. There are different types of card inserts that can be found, making this one of the few untapped areas of Canadian philately. They are easily displayed on clear Vario pages, making them very collectible. As no data exists with regard to the scarcity of these packs, I am simply pricing these with regard only to the value of the blocks contained within them, with no premium for the fact that the pack is sealed and in pristine condition. No plate blocks exist for this stamp, according to Unitrade. The pack offered here grades VF-84 NH, based on the top block in the pack as follows: Margins/centering: 54/70 Paper freshness: 5/5 Colour: 5/5 Impression: 5/5 Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5 Perforations: 10/10 Note any vertical or horizontal line shown in the scan is the edge of the acetate strip that the stamp was resting inside on the stockcard. Note: the above scan is a stock photo as are all my scans for material after 1952. The item(s) you will receive has (have) been carefully checked to adhere to the above grading standards, so while it (they) may not be exactly the same, it (they) will be of the same quality. Also, I do not provide back scans of NH stamps or blocks after 1952 unless they are required to illustrate some attribute of the paper or gum.
