Canada #593iii (SG#700) 8c Ultramarine Queen Elizabeth II 1972-1978 Caricature Issue 1 Bar Tag And Dots to Left of Tiara VF-80 NH

A well centered and very fine NH single of the 8c ultramarine Queen Elizabeth II stamp from the 1973-1977 Caricature Issue, showing the 1-bar tagging error, and a dot to the left of the Queen's tiara. Printed on vertical wove paper with no ribbing. The paper gives a dull fluorescent greyish reaction under ultraviolet light on the front and back, with a sparse concentration of low fluorescent fibres, a very sparse concentration of medium fluorescent fibres and a very sparse concentration of brownish woodpulp fibres visible in the paper. General OP-2 Ottawa tagging, 4 mm wide, of very weak strength (nearly invisible to the naked eye), and glowing a bright yellow under ultraviolet light. The bars have been shifted so as to produce a single 4 mm bar running down the centre of the stamp (Adminware classifies this as G2aC). The dot is not recorded as a constant variety, but are very similar to the constant varieties that are listed in Unitrade, and I have found it in more than one position on the sheet. Comb perforated 12.0 x 12.5. Smooth, white PVA gum with a satin sheen.

Unitrade lists 593iii as LF paper. I have found at least 9 varieties of LF paper and tagging, which all differ slightly from one another. This is one of those varieties.

Adminware values a VF-75 NH single, without the variety at $25. The stamp offered here grades 80 as follows:

Margins/centering: 50/70

Paper freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10
