Canada #593Ai (SG#701) 10c Carmine Queen Elizabeth II 1972-1978 Caricature Issue Plate 1 DF Paper Sealed Pack Of Plate Blocks VF-75 NH
Canada #593Ai (SG#701) 10c Carmine Queen Elizabeth II 1972-1978 Caricature Issue Plate 1 DF Paper Sealed Pack Of Plate Blocks VF-75 NH
A well centered and very fine NH sealed post office pack of 4 plate 1 blocks of the 10c deep carmine Queen Elizabeth II stamp from the 1973-1977 Caricture Issue. Printed on vertical wove paper showing no ribbing on the face and the back. The paper gives a dull fluorescent greyish white reaction under ultraviolet light on both sides. General OP-2 Ottawa tagging, 4 mm wide, of very weak strength (almost invisible to the naked eye), and glowing a bright yellow under ultraviolet light. Comb perforated 13.0 x 13.3. Smooth, white PVA gum with a satin sheen. Unitrade lists #593Ai as DF paper, but I have found at least 6 varieties of fluorescence, which fit the description of DF paper, of which this is one. The card insert inside the pack is the type 1 Canada Post logo with the red, purple and blue large stylized maple leaf, that was replaced sometime in 1976. This stamp was issued on September 1, 1976, and most packs usually contain either the simpler red, white and blue logo, or the simpler purple logo. It is printed on a card stock giving a dull fluorescent greyish reaction under UV light. Unitrade lists a VF-75 NH matched set of the basic plate blocks at $8. These packs have become quite scarce now, as most have been opened, and they are very collectible now due to the fact that they can be easily displayed on clear Vario pages. The card inserts can be found in slightly different designs and printed on different types of card stocks. This is a largely unexplored aspect of modern Canadian philately, and I am sure that some of these will turn out to be very scarce, though sadly no data on scarcity currently exists, as far as I know. So I am pricing them with no premium over the price of the plate blocks contained inside them. The blocks offered here grade VF-80 NH, based on the top block in the pack as follows: Margins/centering: 50/70 Paper freshness: 5/5 Colour: 5/5 Impression: 5/5 Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5 Perforations: 10/10 Note: the above scan is a stock photo as are all my scans for material after 1952. The item(s) you will receive has (have) been carefully checked to adhere to the above grading standards, so while it (they) may not be exactly the same, it (they) will be of the same quality. Also, I do not provide back scans of NH stamps or blocks after 1952 unless they are required to illustrate some attribute of the paper or gum.
