Five fine NH singles of the 3c maroon regular issue and precancelled Robert Borden stamps from the 1973-1977 Caricature Issue, printed on different papers. Printed on vertical wove paper showing no ribbing on either the front, or the back. General OP-2 Ottawa tagging, 4 mm wide, of moderate strength (clearly visible to the naked eye, but not dark), and glowing a bright yellow under ultraviolet light. Comb perforated 12.0 x 12.5. Smooth, creamy PVA gum with a satin sheen. The paper gives different reactions under UV light as follows:

  • the precancelled stamp is on paper giving a low fluorescent bluish reaction on the face, and back, with a sparse concentration of low fluorescent fibres, very few medium fluorescent fibres, and a very sparse concentration of brownish woodpulp fibres visible on both sides.
  • one stamp is on paper giving a dull fluorescent greyish white reaction on the face and back, with a sparse concentration of low fluorescent fibres, a very sparse concentration of medium fluorescent fibres, very few high fluorescent fibres and very few brownish woodpulp fibres visible in the paper.
  • one stamp is on paper giving a dull fluorescent ivory reaction on the front and back, with a low density concentration of low fluorescent fibres, a very sparse concentration of medium fluorescent fibres, and very few brownish woodpulp fibres, visible in the paper.
  • one stamp is on paper giving a dull fluorescent bluish white reaction on the front and back, with a low density concentration of low fluorescent fibres, a sparse concentration of medium fluorescent fibres and very few brownish woodpulp fibres in the paper.

Unitrade lists #588 as LF paper, 588iii as DF paper and 588xx as LF paper. I have found at least 16 varieties of fluorescence and tagging that closely fit the description of LF overall, and 13 varietes of DF paper. These five stamps represent five varietes of these paper types. Unitrade values five F-65 NH singles at $0.87. The stamps offered here grade 70 as follows: Margins/centering: 40/70 Paper freshness: 5/5 Colour: 5/5 Impression: 5/5 Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5 Perforations: 10/10 Note: the above scan is a stock photo as are all my scans for material after 1952.The item (s) you will receive has (have) been carefully checked to adhere to the above grading standards, so while it (they) may not be exactly the same, it (they) will be of the same quality. Also, I do not provide back scans of NH stamps or blocks after 1952 unless they are required to illustrate some attribute of the paper or gum.
