Four very fine NH singles of the 3c maroon regular issue and precancelled Robert Borden stamps from the 1973-1977 Caricature Issue, printed on different papers. Printed on vertical wove paper showing no ribbing on either the front, or the back. General OP-2 Ottawa tagging, 4 mm wide, of both moderate strength (clearly visible to the naked eye, but not dark) and dark strength (dark yellow to the naked eye), and glowing a bright yellow under ultraviolet light. Comb perforated 12.0 x 12.5. Smooth, creamy PVA gum with a satin sheen. The paper gives different reactions under UV light as follows:

  • the precancelled stamp is on paper giving a dull fluorescent blue grey reaction on the face, and a low fluorescent bluish reaction on the back, with a sparse concentration of low fluorescent fibres, a sparse concentration of medium fluorescent fibres, a very sparse concentration of high fluorescent fibres and very few brownish woodpulp fibres visible on both sides. The tagging is moderate strength.
  • one stamp is on paper giving a dull fluorescent ivory reaction on the face, and back, with sparse concentrations of low and medium fluorescent fibres, very few high fluorescent fibres, and a sparse concentration of brownish woodpulp fibres visible on both sides. The tagging is of dark strength.
  • one stamp is on paper giving a dull fluorescent greyish reaction on the front and back, with a sparse concentration of low fluorescent fibres, very sparse concentrations of medium and high fluorescent fibres, and a very sparse concentration of brownish woodpulp fibres, visible in the paper. The tagging is of moderate strength.
  • one stamp is on paper giving a low fluorescent grey blue reaction on the front and back, with a low density concentration of low fluorescent fibres, a sparse concentration of medium fluorescent fibres and very few high fluorescent fibres visible in the paper. The tagging is of moderate strength.

Unitrade lists #588 as LF paper. I have found at least 16 varieties of fluorescence and tagging that closely fit the description of LF overall. These four stamps are four varietes of this paper type. Unitrade values four VF-75 NH singles at $1. The stamps offered here grade 75 as follows: Margins/centering: 45/70 Paper freshness: 5/5 Colour: 5/5 Impression: 5/5 Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5 Perforations: 10/10 Note: the above scan is a stock photo as are all my scans for material after 1952.The item (s) you will receive has (have) been carefully checked to adhere to the above grading standards, so while it (they) may not be exactly the same, it (they) will be of the same quality. Also, I do not provide back scans of NH stamps or blocks after 1952 unless they are required to illustrate some attribute of the paper or gum.
