Canada #424i (SG#549) 5c Prince Edward Island 1964-1966 Provincial Emblems Issue Art Craft First Day Cover VF-81
A very fine example of the 5c purple, green and deep rose Prince Edward Island Lady's Slipper stamp from the 1964-1966 Provincial Emblems Issue First Day Cover. Black and white Art Craft cachet depicting a maple leaf and industry. The envelope is on stock giving a dull fluorescent light violet reaction, with a low density concentration of medium fluorescent fibres visible in the paper, while the stamp is printed on paper giving a dull fluorescent greyish reaction under ultraviolet light, with a sparse concentration of low fluorescent fibres visible in the paper. The stamp is tied by a crisp strike of an Ottawa wavy line first day cancel. The cover offered here grades VF-81 as follows:
Intactness of the cover: 25/25
Paper freshness from the front: 15/25
Paper freshness from the back: 8/10
Condition of the paper and edges: 10/15
Appearance of the handwriting: 5/5 (unaddressed)
Clarity of the postal markings: 15/15
Condition of the stamps: 3/5
Unitrade lists a Rosecraft or Artcraft cachet for a single stamp, on dull paper, on cover for $2. Unitrade does not list the fluorescent papers on FDC. So a more reasonable value for this cover would be $3. Note: the above scan is a stock photo as are all my scans for material after 1952. The cover you will receive has been carefully checked to adhere to the above grading standards, so while it (they) may not be exactly the same, it (they) will be of the same quality.
