Canada 1029var 32c Multicoloured Basilica of St. John's, 1984 200th Anniversary of Roman Catholic Church in Newfoundland Issue, A VFNH Single 1/4mm Leftward Shift of Violet Grey, NF/LF3 Clark Paper
A VFNH single of the 32c multicoloured Basilica of St. John's from the 1984 200th Anniversary of Roman Catholic Church in Newfoundland Issue 1/4mm leftward shift of violet grey, NF/LF3 Clark paper. The "1" or "2" in the paper description refers to where the paper falls on the Irwin-Freeman scale, from 0 to 12, with 0 being NF and 12 being the brightest of hibrites. DF2 is quite close to LF, but not quite bright enough. That being said, the difference between DF2 and NF visually is quite striking. The background of this stamp is a very pale violet grey, which is printed over the blue grey design, making it appear as if the background is blue-grey also. The 1/4 mm shift in this colour creates the appearance of doubling in the design, which is most noticeable in the man and woman in the foreground and the legs of the horses in the foreground.
Unitrade does not list this variety, but we estimate the value at $10. The stamp offered here grades 75 as follows:
Centering/Margins: 45/70
Paper Freshness: 5/5
Colour: 5/5
Impression: 5/5
Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5
