Canada #288/314 5c Steel Blue - 15c Vermilion King George VI, Furs & Threepenny Beaver, 1949-53 Postes Postage Issue & 1951 CAPEX Issue, July 1953 Double Airmail Cover to Denmark With 3 Colour Franking

A fine July 1953 30c double airmail cover to Denmark, which is franked with 5c Postes-Postage, 10c drying Skins and 15c Threepenny Beaver from the CAPEX issue. All but 2 of these stamps are used correctly in period, as the stamps that replaced them were not issued until April 1954 and February 1955. The 5c Postes-Postage is about 2 months late, but still not too late.

Unusual because:

  • The rate is a double rate, and most covers to Denmark would be the 15c rate.
  • Three different definitives are used to pay the postage, rather than just one of two.

Our estimate of the value of this cover based on the above factors is $10. To understand how we have assessed the cover and arrived at this estimate and to gain a broader understanding of postal history collecting, I would suggest you read the article linked here. It should clarify the factors that make covers, and this one in particular scarce, and will help you to understand why we have estimated it at this amount.
